Race in Genetics Research with Dr. Neil Risch

Date:
March 10, 2021
Time:
12-1pm
Place:
Zoom

The Genetics and Genomics Student Interest Group is hosting its first lunch talk of 2021 this Wednesday, March 10, at 12-1pm. We'll be featuring Dr. Neil Risch, who will be speaking to us about the role of race in genetics research, and how genetic researchers in general might approach racial health disparities.

Dr. Risch is the Lamond Family Foundation Distinguished Professor in Human Genetics, Professor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, and Director of UCSF's Institute for Human Genetics. Over the past decade, Dr. Risch has collaborated with colleagues at Kaiser Permanente Northern California to develop the GERA (Genetic Epidemiology Research on Adult Health and Aging) cohort, combining the longitudinal electronic health record information of more than 100,000 subjects with environmental and genomic data. In this talk, you'll have the opportunity to hear insights about the process of aging gleaned from this large genetic epidemiology cohort, as well as how racial disparities may be more broadly approached by geneticists.

We hope to see you on Wednesday, March 10! The Zoom link is attached below.
